I’m excited that KDE has once again been given the opportunity to work with a number of really awesome kids as part of Google Code-in 2011. Find out more about Code-in and the other 17 accepted organisations in the announcement.

This time Valorie, Sandro, Annma, Akarsh and Roger are helping me with admin duties. We’re looking forward to the flood

If you’re interested in taking part in Code-in as a student have a look at KDE’s preliminary task list. Those will be moved to the official place in the next days. The real fun starts on November 21st and then you can start working on the tasks. If you have ideas for tasks that you would like to work on but that are not on the list then please propose them either to a potential mentor or the admins. Be quick with this. We can’t add tasks again until Dez. 16th once the program started. Please also carefully read the eligibility requirements.

KDE mentors: If you still have task ideas please add them to the wiki asap.

Should you have questions feel free to ask either on the kde-soc mailing list or in the IRC channel (#kde-soc on freenode).

Since the inception of Gnome, there seems to have been a never ending flame war about desktops in the FLOSS community. I am really getting tired of it, because it not only is boring, but also continuously diverts us from being productive.

During a presentation about the Ubuntu Canada LoCo, and an ensuing unconference session at FSOSS this weekend, valuable time that could have been used trying to discuss ways how the Ubuntu LoCo can be more effective to promote Ubuntu, was instead lost by arguments about Unity and its direction.

Heute morgen bin ich um 0700 aus dem Bett geschmissen worden, weil a) meine innere Uhr meinte, es reiche mit Schlaf (die hätte ich aber noch überlisten können) und b) meine Tochter der festen Überzeugung war, es sei 0800! Wie auch immer, raus aus dem Bett, unter die Dusche und Radio an:

“Heute Nacht sind die Uhren von 3 auf 2 Uhr zurückgestellt worden. Man führte dieses Verfahren damals mit dem Ziel ein, Energie zu sparen.”

Super! Das ist doch ein hohes Ziel. Aber hat das in der Zwischenzeit mal einer überprüft? Immerhin machen wir das seit den 1940ern ! Mich interessiert tatsächlich wie viel Energie eingespart wird oder ob nur die Arbeitsgruppe, die das damals initiierte nicht mehr existiert und sich somit keiner mehr verantwortlich fühlt!

Ich erkenne in meinem Umfeld nur negative Aspekte der Zeitumstellung. Mein Körper-/Geist-Konstrukt braucht immer mindestens eine Woche, bis es sich wieder auf normalen Level bewegt. Und selbst wenn ich darüber nachdenke, fallen mir wirklich keine positiven Effekte ein, es sei denn, es würde tatsächlich Energie eingespart werden. Dann müsste das aber exorbitant hoch sein, um mich persönlich von diesem hin und her zu überzeugen.

Gibt es nun echte Hinweise, dass Energie gespart wird? In den Medien macht es den Eindruck es sei nicht so, denn sonst würden die doch sicherlich im Sinne des Klimawandels damit hausieren gehen und nicht nur davon sprechen, dass es das Ziel gewesen sei. Hat jemand Informationen dazu?

Lydia Pintscher (Nightrose): moar tasks!

We’ve got quite a few tasks for Google Code-in now but still not enough on the wiki page: http://community.kde.org/GoogleCodeIn/2011/Ideas. Please help fill it. It needs to have a lot of tasks (at least 5 in each area) on Nov. 1st (org application deadline). I’m sure there are a lot more of those “oh man I wish I had more time to get this done one day” tasks. This is your chance!

For more details check my initial announcement. There are also more task ideas in the comments there that are looking for a mentor in case you are not very creative today

It is time again to prepare for Google Code-in. We have 2 weeks to collect tasks that we’d like high-school students aged 13 to 17 to work on. Last year GCI was an amazing success and I hope we can take part again this year. For this I need your help.

We need to fill this page with as many tasks as we can in the next 2 weeks: http://community.kde.org/GoogleCodeIn/2011/Ideas Unlike last year we will not be able to add more tasks for the students until the middle of the program so we really need to have as many as we can by the time the program starts.

We are again looking for tasks in the following areas (we need at least 5 in each of them):

Documentation: Tasks related to creating/editing documents
Outreach: Tasks related to community management and outreach/marketing
Quality Assurance: Tasks related to testing and ensuring code is of high quality

User Interface: Tasks related to user experience research or user interface design and interaction

Lydia Pintscher (Nightrose): 15 years of KDE

15 years ago today marks the beginning of what today is a large, worldwide, rocking team producing Free Software. We’re creating programs that are used by so many people all around the world – on their desktop, netbook, tablet, mobile phone and in the cloud – allowing them to be free.

I joined KDE around the time when 3.5.6 or so was hip – I was fascinated by the code and the people behind it. Boy, we’ve come a long way since then on so many levels. It’s been a joy to watch and be a part of. Just as Cornelius, I can say I wouldn’t be where I am today without it. I’ve made the best friends one could imagine, learned more than I could ever wish for, traveled around the world, found love – all that while doing my small part in changing the world. Thanks KDE! I owe you.

But let’s not forget that the ride has just started! In the next years I want KDE to have a significant part in helping make people more free, allowing them to do amazing things that we can’t imagine today. And I want KDE to grow in numbers, scope and financially without losing its identity. It’ll be a challenge but we can make it happen. And you can be a part of it!

A German bank is giving away 1000 Euro each to the 1000 associations who can get the most votes. Everyone has 3 votes. Please do vote with all 3 for KDE. Here’s what you have to do:

Lydia Pintscher (Nightrose): Teaching the next Adas – join KDE for Ada Lovelace Day tutorials

October 7th is Ada Lovelace Day, a day where people write about women who influenced them in their science, technology, engineering or math career. KDE wants to celebrate the day a bit differently this year. We will help the next generations of Adas find their way in KDE and Qt. We’ll do this by holding a tutorial day for women and their friends (meaning women are the main focus of the event but everyone else who’s nice is welcome as well). The tutorials will be given by the excellent Myriam Schweingruber and Dario Freddi. Don’t forget to sign up.

How To Help With Bug Reports (5PM UTC)
Coding in a Free Software project is a very important part, but by far not the only one. One of the possible fields where non-coders can get involved is bug triaging. This course will give an overview on bug triaging and testing. After the course the participant should be able to pick their preferred application and start helping in bug triaging. Myriam will talk about all the fine details of becoming a bugmaster from choosing the right project for yourself to figuring out what is missing in a bug report. This is probably one of the most valuable skills you can bring to KDE right now.
Building your own launcher (3PM UTC)
In this tutorial, you will create a basic application launcher for KDE. Yes, a full-fledged one you can then have fun in turning into a real “start menu” with your new skills. While doing that, Dario will teach you the basics of KDE, Qt and QML, which will empower you to create your first shiny application.

Requirements:

Basic knowledge of C++, mainly syntax-wise
Beginner knowledge of Qt could be preferred, but not a requirement
A Linux+KDE installation
A working KDE development environment (Show up early in the channel if you don’t have that set up yet so we can still do that together.)
KDevelop 4.2+ (preferred) or Qt Creator, or your IDE of choice

You will learn about:

Basic usage of CMake for building your project
Basic Qt paradigms
Some of KDE’s basic APIs such as KService, KIO, Solid
Basic QML programming
The Model/View paradigm and how to use it with Qt/KDE
Interaction between QML and C++

The tutorials will take place in #kde-tutorials on freenode. (You can use the webchat if you don’t already have a working IRC client.) Each course will last approximately 1 hour and will include a question and answer part.

Jonathan Kolberg (bulldog98): Kubuntu and KDE love story continued

I am proud to report that Kubuntu 11.10 has KDE SC 4.7.1 since about one week.

Over the last couple of weeks the better part of the Kubuntu team has been working on bringing KDE SC 4.7.1 to Kubuntu.

Especially the last week we started to backport it to Kubuntu 11.04. We’ll need some more time since 4.7.1 need a lot being backported to natty.

Of course we would not be in that good a position for the 4.7.1 release without the excellent team of Kubuntu Ninjas, the elite release packagers working in the dungeon of our IRC channel.

Together they prepared 130 source packages for upload. And improved the scripts and added zsh completion they will be merged into our official repository soon.

A big thank you goes to:

Romain Perier – french reinforcement for the ninjas, though he is becoming a knight who says ni at the court of Phonon (or so someone told me)
Rohan Garg – he did quite a few packages and had nearly no time to do so
Michał Zając – who merged in nearly all the stuff I packaged (thanks mate)
Philip Muškovac – not much of a blogger but a really good mate
Felix Geyer – who did only one package, but reuploaded all our packages to enable our new translation handling for desktop files
Scott Kitterman – the man who actually gets new stuff into the archive, or not, depending on whether he gets enough cookies, sometimes proper licensing also helps
Harald Sitter – who uploaded the translation packages, since my bandwidth is not sufficent

been some time since I blogged last time. My TODO list is ever increasing and I took my day job at KDAB up again. Among others, I attended a marketing talk by Edmund Preiss. He actually made that marketing talk interesting, not least by his huge knowledge in the business, thanks to ~20 years of working for Intel. Probably the most important info I got out of it is this:

install VTune and profile the hell out of KDE/FOSS software and improve it all!

speeding up KDevelop

Personally I did the latter for KDevelop the last two days, and the results are astonishing. I just tested the results from today and an unscientific time kdevelop -s lotsofprojects - wait until parsing finished - stop showed roughly 50% decrease in time, from ~12min to ~6min. Yes, a whopping 50% - try it out for yourself and see how big the gain is. Don’t forget to whipe the DUChain cache though (i.e. via setting the environment variable CLEAR_DUCHAIN_DIR=1).

Why VTune rocks

I’m a huge fan of the Valgrind toolsuite, but it is simply too slow for profiling some things. Like opening ten medium to big sized projects in KDevelop and taking a look at the parsing speed. This can easily take a few minutes, but in Valgrind it would take ages. With VTune on the other hand, thanks to it’s sampling based approach, I don’t really notice the performance delay.

Then you might have heard of the new perf profiling utility in the Linux kernel. It is also sampling based, but sadly requires special compile options on 64 Bit (-fno-omit-frame-pointers), and the UI is horrible, I haven’t found anything worthwhile with it so far…

VTune on the other hand has an incredible GUI, which makes profiling a joy. You can look at call stacks top-down or bottom-up, visualize locks and waits, easily find hotspots, … I’m blasted. Especially the utilities to look at multi threaded performance (of e.g. KDevelop) kills every single other performance tool I have ever tested. Oh and did I mention that you can attach to an app at runtime, analyze some thing, and detach again?

Seriously, Intel: You just found a new fan boy in me. Thanks for giving this tool away for free for us “I hack on this tool in my spare time, yet still want it to perform nicely” people :) And kudos to the VTune developers - I’m blown away by it!

I really hope more people in the KDE community will try out VTune and try to improve the performance of our apps, I bet there is lots of potential!

Pitfalls

There are some negative aspects to VTune though: First of all it’s UI is sometimes freezing. I wonder if the developers should not maybe spent some time on analyzing the tool itself ;-)

The biggest gripe though is that VTune does not work everywhere. I tried to run it on my Arch box, but sadly Linux 3.0 is not supported by VTune yet. It worked like a charm on two Ubuntu boxes with some 2.8.X kernel though.

This also means that I have no idea if, and how, VTune works on non-Intel CPUs. I think some of it works nicely. I did not install any of the Kernel modules for examples, which would be required for hardcore lowlevel CPU profiling. I think the same feature set I praised so much above, should hence be available on e.g. AMD CPUs. But well, this is left to be tested.

So, I’m now drinking a well deserved beer and look positively into the future of a fast KDevelop/KDE :)

I can’t believe Summer of Code is over again already. But well, it is. It’s been a great few months with our students and they’ve done really amazing stuff. You’ll get to read about all the projects soon in an article series on dot.kde.org. I’m really happy to announce that of the 51 students that started with KDE 47 finished successfully and passed the final evaluation – 1 left us after midterm for a job he couldn’t say no to. Thanks for rocking! I hope you’ll stick around and we’ll get to see more of you in the future A huge thank you of course also goes out to our mentors without whom this would not have been possible and who I am sure had a few sleepless nights every now and then. And last but not least thank you to my co-admins Valorie, Leo and Jeff.

Season of KDE students have just been sent a link to their final evaluation form. I’ll tell you more about that next week. So far it looks like the Season of KDE students rock just as much. (Not that I ever had a doubt about that )

Hin und wieder kommt es vor, dass man mal ein oder zwei T-Shirts aussortiert und diese der Altkleidersammlung übergibt. Aber hier habe ich etwas gefunden für Menschen mit zu viel Zeit

Man schnippelt die Shirts klein, färbt sie und knüpft sie auf eine Gaze. Und schon hat man einen Baby-Teppich. Zack so einfach. Wer Zeit hat, der darf das gerne mal machen und mir die Bilder oder den Teppich schicken.

M.A.W. Spitau (MAWSpitau): Bedrucken von Classei OrgaTabs 58100X – HILFE!

Ich drehe hier langsam aber sicher am Rad und ich weiß nicht wo der Fehler steckt. Eigentlich sollte es doch kein Problem sein Tabs zu bedrucken, aber der Drucker druckt wo er will, aber nicht wo ich will. Argh! Nun aber mal im Detail:

Das System

Ich bin Verfechter des Organisationssystems von Classei. Das System ist super und hat mir schon manch langes Suchen erspart, aber darauf will ich nicht eingehen, nur soviel: Es handelt sich um Mappen mit einer Registratur (siehe Abbildungen). Diese kann man selbst beschriften und aufkleben. Da meine Handschrift nicht immer die leserlichste ist, möchte ich die Tabs gerne mit dem Drucker beschriften. Dazu gibt es auf der Seite von Classei Druckvorlagen im doc-Format. Nichts leichter als das… LibreOffice angeschmissen und läuft.

Das Problem

Nun möchte ich ja nicht die original Tabs mit Probedrucken bombardieren und dann bares Geld in die Tonne werfen. Wie es sich gehört, drucke ich auf normalen DIN A4 Papier die Vorlage als Test aus, richte diesen Druck mit den original Tabs aus und halte es gegen das Licht. Passt! Wunder prächtig! Wenn ich nun aber die Tabs einlege und drucke, dann werden die Beschriftungen ca. 1 cm über dem eigentlich Feld gedruckt.

Druckereinstellungen sind bei beiden Drucken gleich geblieben.

Bildbeschreibung

Auf dem Foto kann man sehen, dass der Begriff ”Lernfeld 13” eigentlich in den rot schraffierten Bereich gehört. Daneben ist ein “normaler” DIN A4 Probedruck, der zeigt, dass es passen würde. Es ist erkennbar, dass das Blatt mit den Tabs etwas länger als DIN A4 ist, aber das kann nicht das Problem sein, denn:

Lege ich das Papier mit dem oberen Rand an den Einzug des Druckers, so dass er nach unten hin nur mehr Luft hat zum Drucken.
Wenn es durch den größeren Bogen zu Problemen käme, dann dürfte die Verschiebung ja nur 5mm ausmachen und nicht 1cm.

Ein weiterer Unterschied zum normalen Papier ist, dass es sich um dickeres Papier handelt, aber das dürfte doch auch nicht das Problem sein, oder?

Peripherie

Ich arbeite mit Kubuntu GNU/Linux (11.04), LibreOffice (3.3.3) und einem HP 8500 (Affiliate-Link).

Ich bin für jeden noch so abwegigen Tipp oder Gedanken dankbar!!! Nutzt alle möglichen Kanäle!

M.A.W. Spitau (MAWSpitau): Studienleitertätigkeiten (8.8.2011 – 12.8.2011)

Dem aufmerksamen Lehrer wird aufgefallen sein, dass die in der Überschrift genannte Woche, hier in Schleswig-Holstein die letzte Ferienwoche war. Ich war aber bereits die ganze Woche als Studienleiter unterwegs und konnte mich gar nicht so richtig über das schlechte Wetter aufregen.

Die Woche begann mit einer Sitzung für die Berufspädagogen, in denen wir ein neues Curriculum entwickelt haben, danach ging es weiter mit einer Qualifizierungsmaßnahme, gefolgt von der Einführungsveranstaltung der neuen LiV, einen Tag später die Einführung in die Berufspädagogik und zu guter letzt noch eine Dienstversammlung.

Die Arbeit ist eine gänzlich anders als in der Schule. Besonders, weil sie immer an unterschiedlichen Orten stattfindet und man quer durch Schleswig-Holstein reist. Nun hat auch der Schulalltag begonnen und ich bin gespannt, wie ich das alles möglichst effektiv unter einen Hut bringen kann.

Wie geht es weiter?

Als nächstes liegen ein Schulentwicklungstag, an dem ich einen Workshop zum Thema “Feedback” halten werde, ein weiteres Mal die Weiterbildungsmaßnahme für die Sonderpädagogen, in der ich die Säule für das Kooperative Lernen übernehme, der nächste Ausbildungtag für die LiV und dann auch schon bald die ersten Ausbildungsberatungen an. Alles wieder unheimlich spannende Aufgaben, auf die ich mich freue.

Die liebe Zeit

Da aber auch mein Tag nur 24 Stunden hat, von denen man durch diese komischen Dinger, die sich Schlaf, Essen und Körperpflege nennen, nur maximal 12 zur Verfügung hat, muss ich wieder einmal gucken, dass ich mich anders strukturiere. Ich habe mir hier schon die 43 Ordner von Classei geholt und merke schon, wie diese mich entlasten, gerade weil ich nun immer mehr Termine auf dem Plan habe, die nicht regelmäßig stattfinden.

Außerdem will ich mir Grenzen in der Arbeitszeit setzen, da habe ich aber noch keine Idee, wie und wo diese Grenzen sein sollen, denn es muss ja doch alles irgendwie geschafft werden. Da werde ich in mich gehen und mal gucken, ob ich da eine gute Idee finde.

Lydia Pintscher (Nightrose): Desktop Summit recap

Wow. I finally made it back home after over a week of Desktop Summit and visiting family on the way back. What a ride it was… Let me recap some of it:

Meeting some of the best friends I have all in one spot is the best thing ever. It’s great to catch up on important things and also talk about non-sense for a week.
I’ve spend quite a lot of time talking to people in GNOME about mentoring programs and community management. Very useful and not really possible to that extend outside the Desktop Summit unfortunately. The lower software stack isn’t the only place we can and should collaborate. The social stuff is just as important and maybe even easier to collaborate on sometimes.
I got really really nice gifts from India and the US. Thank you so much folks!
Seif Lotfy and I gave a talk about what GNOME and KDE can learn from each other. I’ll try to post a summary soon. It was well received and we got a lot of great questions from the audience.
I chaired the intern showcase (which was a lightning talk session by students from GSoC, Season of KDE and the GNOME Outreach Program for Women). It was stunning. Each of the presenters did a really great job showing the work they’ve done. I was sad to not have been able to have more students present (time was limited). What made me really really happy is the fact that at least two of KDE’s GSoC students paid their trip to Berlin from India from their GSoC money. You have no idea how thrilled I was to hear that it means so much to them to meet the community they’ve worked with even without getting sponsored. The other thing that thrilled me was to see how many women we got on stage for the intern showcase. Rocking!
KDE e.V. organized a professional mediation training for the members of the Community Working Group and a few others. Attending it was very useful for me. I hope I’ll not have to put my mad skills into practice soon of course.
We held a few feedback sessions on the activities of the Community Working Group over the last year. This feedback was very useful and lead to proposing a few changes we’ll implement over the next weeks. Stay tuned for more info.
I was elected into the board of KDE e.V. and Cornelius was re-elected. This hasn’t really settled in just yet – probably will in the next days. The main thing I want to work on in the next weeks is making the work of the board even more transparent and getting a lot of the tasks that the board currently does into the e.V. membership and the community at large. This should allow the board to concentrate more on tasks that only the board can do. I need your help for that and I’ll ask for it every now and then.

All in all I consider the Desktop Summit a huge success and am looking forward to the next one (after an Akademy ). Mad props to everyone who helped organize it.

So what’s up next for me? (Let me know if you want to meet up.)

I might go to Paris for VideoLAN Dev Days to meet some of our friends from VLC and co and to go back to lovely Paris.
I’ll be speaking at openSUSE conf about social skills for geeks (a session I’ve done before together with Hanne and Alexandra at the Qt Contributors’ Summit) and do a BoF about how to get more women (and diversity) into openSUSE.
I might come to Oslo for a few days in the next months to visit friends and disconnect.
We’re planning a KDE e.V. sprint to work on things like Join the Game. I’ll help with getting that rolling.

After having run several Ubuntu global jams in the last couple of years, I would like to try something new this year.

Global Jams so far have been a lot around bug triage and educating new members on how to get involved with the Ubuntu community, This year, I would like to start a development project that has the aim to create another tool that could allow more people to get involved with the community.

Gestern klingelte das Telefon und ich hatte eine mir bekannte, aber lange nicht mehr gehörte Stimme am Rohr. Ein Kollege meiner alten LUG rief an.

Er fragte mich, ob auf dem kommenden Software Freedom Day in Hamburg nicht einen Vortrag halten könne. Gerne zum Thema Grafik- und Bildbearbeitung mit Open-Source-Software. Ich war natürlich gleich Feuer und Flamme, aber leider habe ich am 17.9.2011 schon eine Fortbildung, die ich nicht absagen kann. Somit kommt diese Veranstaltung für mich nicht in Frage. Schade! Aber ich fühle mich gebauchpinselt

Ich habe mir fest vorgenommen, die LUG in Hamburg mal wieder zu besuchen.

M.A.W. Spitau (MAWSpitau): Arbeitsgruppensitzung Berufspädagogik (8.8.2011)

Die Arbeitsgruppensitzung war auf 4 Stunden angesetzt und wir haben richtig viel geschafft. In der Runde der Studienleiter war mit mir nur ein anderer Neuling auf dem Gebiet. Die anderen Kolleginnen und Kollegen sind schon erfahrene Füchse und Füchsinnen

Hauptsächlich ging es darum die kommende Einführungsveranstaltung der neuen Referendare mit Inhalten zu füllen und die Ausbildung für die nächsten 18 Monate inhaltlich vorzustrukturieren. Da sich gerade in dieser Zeit die Verordnung, nach der die Referendare ausgebildet werden, geändert hat und die Veranstaltungen in der Berufspädagogik reduziert wurden, war es nicht immer einfach, Entscheidungen zu treffen. Aber das Ergebnis kann sich sehen lassen.

Ich habe mich in der Gruppe sehr wohl gefühlt. Gerade als ~~Dummbatz~~ Neuling hat man ja hier und da nochmal Fragen, die an die Basis gehen und sich nicht immer auf hohem Niveau bewegen. Antworten auf die Fragen wurden gerne gegeben, so dass man nicht das Gefühl hatte, als Neuling zu gelten.

In dieser Woche habe ich noch einige Veranstaltungen vom Landesseminar Berufliche Bildung. Die spannendste wird die Einführungsveranstaltung am Donnerstag sein, bei der ich dann endlich die Referendare kennen lernen werde, die ich dann 18 Monate begleiten darf.

M.A.W. Spitau (MAWSpitau): Klassengruppen bei Facebook

Seit einiger Zeit habe ich für die Klassen, die ich unterrichte, bei facebook Gruppen eingerichtet, in denen sich die Schülerinnen und Schüler austauschen können, wenn Sie wollen. Und Sie wollen… teilweise…

Zu erst: Die Gruppen sind natürlich KEINE Pflicht für die Schülerinnen und Schüler. Ich habe ganz klar kommuniziert, dass ich über facebook keine Informationen kommunizieren werde, die für den Unterricht oder das Geschehen in der Schule von Wichtigkeit wären. Das Ganze solle nur eine Möglichkeit sein, außerhalb des Unterrichts zu kommunizieren.

Meine Erfahrung

Eine grundsätzliche Aussage kann man nicht treffen. Die einen Klassen sind hoch motiviert und kommunizieren ausgiebig auf der Plattform, andere Klassen sind eher nicht an einem Austausch interessiert. In einer Gruppe gibt es Freiwillige, die die Klassenarbeiten als Termine eintragen und sich gegenseitig bei Hausaufgaben helfen. In einer anderen Gruppe gibt es nur sporadische Kommentare.

Auch ich poste in den Gruppen hin und wieder Links, die für die Schülerinnen und Schüler von Interesse sein können. Wie zum Beispiel Links zu Videos von Slam-Texten, die mir persönlich gefallen haben.

Moodle und Co.

Man kann natürlich die Frage stellen, warum man nicht moodle oder eine andere eigens dafür eingerichtet Plattform nutzt. Jetzt aber mal ehrlich: Soll man die Schülerinnen und Schüler nicht dort abholen, wo sie im Moment stehen? Dadurch, dass ich den Schülerinnen und Schülern dort die Möglichkeit biete sich einzubringen, wo sie sich so oder so herumtreiben, ist die Wahrscheinlichkeit recht hoch, dass sie es tun. Ein Versuch mit moodle zeigte mir, dass die Beteiligung der Schülerinnen und Schüler gegen Null läuft. Es ist eben ein System der Schule und das ist uncool. Wenn die Lehrer aber so cool sind, dass sie sich da rumtreiben, wo die Schülerinnen und Schüler es auch tun, dann ist das mal supercool.

Man muss auch mal abgeben können

Da ich eine Klasse zum neuen Schuljahr nicht mehr unterrichten werde, sehe ich es auch nicht ein, noch in der Gruppe zu verweilen. Ich habe die Klasse gefragt, wer die Administration übernehmen soll, diese haben gewählt und ich habe die Administration abgegeben und mich aus der Gruppe werfen lassen. Ob diese Gruppe nun nach den Ferien weiterhin bestand haben wird und ob dort weitere Diskussionen stattfinden, dass werde ich wohl nicht erfahren. Vielleicht geht da aber auch nun erst recht die Luzi ab, da ich als Lehrkraft dort nicht mehr verweile.

Fazit

Sollte man nun Gruppen für Schülerinnen und Schüler einrichten oder nicht? Animiert man Schülerinnen und Schüler sich bei facebook anzumelden, um mit dem Lehrer in Kontakt zu sein und unter Umständen keine Informationen zu verpassen?

Ich kenne keine genauen Zahlen, aber ich denke, dass mindestens 80-95 Prozent der Schülerinnen und Schüler bereits bei facebook registriert ist. Durch eine Gruppe dort können Klassengemeinschaften zusammenwachsen und Unklarheiten aus dem Unterricht beseitigt werden. Die Schülerinnen und Schüler können sich in einem Raum über die Schule, fachliche und auch private Dinge unterhalten. Für mich gibt es weiterhin ein JA für die Klassengruppen auf facebook.

Was haltet ihr davon vorhandene Strukturen im Internet für Unterricht zu nutzen?
